Witnesses are forbidden to communicate with former members in anyway, including a greeting. This Shunning Policy Is The Major Reason Why Many Persons Speak Out Against The Watchtower Society. If This Policy Were Dropped, There Would Be A Sharp Decrease In Criticism, For All Religions Have Erroneous Teachings. Many "Cult" experts, agree that two major identifying marks of a destructive group are, first, the restrictions on reading or obtaining any information from former members and second, the shunning of those who have left the group.

Fathers are restricted from family prayers and cannot discuss the scriptures with any Watchtower family members. With the exception of family members that live in the same house, all those who leave the Watchtower Society are shunned by all other family members and so called friends for the remainder of their lives.
