The Straight Jacket of Human Consciousness
From the Mind of Richard Schwartz

Psychologist Carl Jung felt that therapy and psychoanalysis rarely change one's life. Changes only occur, said Jung, through experiences such as a mystical conversion. The idea here is that only through personal subjective experience can the knowledge beyond the discursive be understood in non-discursive terms.

Plato gave an allegory story of persons living their entire lives, born in a cave. Living there chained to only face a wall where they could not see the source of light, the fire behind them, they faced the wall and became experts in their reality, the reality of shadows, the shadows where their world, their realty. If one person were to somehow turn around and see the fire, see the actual objects that create the shadows, walk outside the cave and see the outdoors, the sun . . how would they explain to others? They would not have a language that could possibly convey the meanings needed to understand to expound.

Now think about it, if the soul is immortal or if there is a part of life that is beyond physical life, an eternal portion that continues on, this consciousness or soul then enters a new dimension of realty where there is no language or ways to interpret and convey this other former level of consciousness. And with no adequate or possible way to explain - at least in our reality, as our reality is crucially discursive reasoning - and if our reality is without terms for what is beyond conceptual rationalism, then this fomer level of realty is soon forgotten, as it is unable to even be recalled in the mind, for it cannot be retained in the memory in discursive manner. Since this level of reality cannot be expressed it can't be taught objectively, but only through personal subjective experience in Near Death Experiences, in psychic ability from an equanimous mind, in psychedelic drug experience and in meditative mystical experience. And so without such subjective individual experience, such level of reality is soon forgotten - lost knowledge. No matter how profound, without use it fades to nonexistence in memory.

Night can not interpret day and day can not interpret night and they cycle each other forgetting each other They re-remember each other at death and re-birth into each other. Now if both such realities are equal in limitations, then each level of reality is soon forgotten on each side. But if one of the polarities is larger than the other, then as a person dies, he enters his old home, his former home and re-remembers his past reality, and in such remembrance that it is as easy as elementary in awareness. A re-discovery. This reminds me of an older television episode of Star Trek, where Dr. McCoy obtains the knowledge of advanced brain surgery through a machine. And as he obtains such knowledge and performs the surgery on his crew member, Spock, he becomes enamored in how easy it really is and exclaims that even a child could do this it is so easy, so simple that thinking about it is almost nonexistent. And then the machine's affects started wearing off and suddenly it was so extremely difficult to do, almost impossible to do.

Knowledge that can't be explained objectively can only be taught by supplying the right conditions for the recipients to experience such other level of reality subjectively. It is the only way, the diverse way. In non-absolute terms, the path with degrees of relativity within the direction of unity from diversity. The harmonious, moving, non-absolute arrangement of autonomous individualities into the paradox of unity. Each has his or her own subjective, unique experience where former levels of consciousness, the higher, or other reality, becomes felt.

This subjective way over the futility of objective teaching reminds me of the Move and Broadway play from the musical written by the rock band, The Who, in their rock opera, Tommy. It was here that Tommy knew the only way to convey what he experiences is through each person's own subjective experience. And so this blind, deaf and dumb boy, had everyone put on blinders, ear plugs, and not to speak. Naturally such a plan backfired, as no one can be forced to under go a subjective experience and this is why such a former level of reality that encompasses the human psyche, the very foundation of the soul's existence and profound meaning is still lost. So significant and yet completely forgotten, even attacked by those who remain blinded in their subjective level of consciousness with it's limits and boundaries that do not allow such other levels of reality to be conveyed therein.

Day gets a glimpse of night and night gets a glimpse of day. Knowledge of both dimensions supply the right conditions for further evolution expansion. Or does night contain day and day not night? One dimension higher than the other? Is it the void where we determine or the void that determines our incarnations (reincarnation) back to the day?

Numerous reports from Raymond Moody, Kenneth Ring, Melvin Morse reveal that in near death experiences, such knowledge as life review are experienced in matter of seconds. There is even relayed the idea of open doors of perception, higher clarity, and increased knowledge as well as the appetite for increasing knowledge. Many have reported a light and a being of light that speaks beyond discursive reasoning, which bring me to the ideas taught by psychologist Carl Jung, who wrote of a level of consciousness conveyed in symbols, in art, as in the ancient mandalas of the oriental and Eastern religions.

The idea is that to die, is to go back home, and to go back home is the immediate remembrance, and yet it is a re-discovery which turns into such utter familiarity that it is second nature, a nature that we cannot even understand in this reality without glimpses through individual subjective experience, which the majority of this world, this level, do not partake, nor have any understanding of, but only in their subconscious memories, long lost memories of non-discursive experience through the soul consciousness, the travels of the soul.

Why though, would the soul enter a limited conscious level to soon forget the very home it is from? Why limit itself in more boundaries? The only answer would be the answer to there being a purpose of this life. Which seems to be to learn to love, to compassion, to walk in such a way as to remain objective while in intense subjectivity and all the while rising above it.
